Mission Statement:
The Foundation for Genetic Education and Counseling (FGEC) will promote 'genetic literacy' among the general public and serve as a resource for genetic counseling information for both the general public and their health care professions. The foundation will emphasize educational programs for individuals affected by - or at risk for - complex diseases.

The Foundation for Genetic Education and Counseling (FGEC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the understanding of human genetics and genetic medicine among the general public and their health professionals.

The identification of 'susceptibility genes' for complex diseases offers new possibilities for developing medications and approaches to prevention that will improve human health and alleviate suffering. These discoveries, however, might also provoke confusion, fear and stigma in a population that may not understand the fundamentals of genetics or appreciate the complexities of human variation.

The FGEC has focused its initial efforts on developing Educational Resources for individuals interested in learning more about Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder.
